Approaches to therapy
I believe that any therapeutic approach that has been scientifically proven to be effective deserves to be included in our psychological toolbox. The most important thing for me is that my method or approach will be based on your goals, and what suits you at any given moment in the treatment.
What's psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is the process of working with a mental health professional toward understanding yourself better and developing new ways of coping with life's challenges. This process can help people live fuller and more satisfying lives. Psychotherapy is an effective means for solving everyday problems, as it is for addressing more serious mental health issues. Therapy can be short or long, time-limited or open-ended, depending on the needs of the client (see below – How long does therapy last?).
Toolkit
Therapy is not only a science but an art as well, and the art is in tailoring the treatment to fit the exact size and need of every client. In this I rely on my tool-kit, which includes traditional psychodynamic training, CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy), mindfulness, and a lot of frank, open discussion with the client on what he or she feels is working for them. Effective therapy is built on a strong therapy relationship. As a therapist, alongside the professional skill I strive to enable a good connection by creating an atmosphere that is warm, empathic and attentive to the client.
